Journey to the Rift by Cathi Shaw, utterly shocked me. I read this book and after I finished I did a little more research on Cathi Shaw and learned she had two more books set in the same world but not apart of the same series. While she did in fact, write this book to be a series book, it was so well written and polished that it could easily pass as a stand alone novel, which isn't something that I say often. Personally, I love a good fantasy novel or series, however most people try and write what has already been written because it has been done and has succeeded. Journey to the Rift was a unique book that stood out in the Fantasy genre. I haven't been this excited for a sequel to come out in a really long time. this book leaves me with so many questions- who are the elders? what is the importance of the rift? There are literally a dozen more questions I would love to ask the author and that I hope will be answered in the next book. This fantasy novel ends on such a shocking note that you can't help but question so many things! If you're looking for a high-intensity fantasy book that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time then this is the book for you! I know that I will be going and reading Cathi's other two books because even if they are half as good as this book is I know they will be epic.

So, I finished reading this in just two days after starting, Maura Jortner’s debut Young Adult Thriller novel, The Life Group. While it was written for high school students, this book is great for any age over 14. The Life group kept me glued to every page until I finished the book, with only two questions running through my head, what will happen to Leah and if she will ever find her sister Rachel. Rachel, is this young woman who is actively searching for her sister, Leah, who went missing. She leads you through an a series of twists and turns with an incredibly shocking ending that you will not see coming!
The Life Group takes you on a journey that is full of thrilling dynamics that bring a certain realness to make it a thrilling ordinary yet unique real. By adding themes of current issues going on in society today it brings a relief to see someone fighting to keep the out of control in her life in control. Readers will experience of Rachel’s fierce loyalty, her longing to find and save her sister, and her desperation as she lives out one life-altering day. This was one of the most emotionally charged books I have read in a long time and I recommended this book for anyone who wants a new thrill yet real book to read.

I choose to go back and read the first two books before reading and reviewing her third book and believe me I am so glad I did! My statement is to never giveaways any spoilers when reviewing a book and with the Remnants of Yesterday, it is really hard for me to stick by that rule! This book really grips you as a reader and it makes you want to read more from Ava!
This is the perfect book to end the perfect (in highly a tear-jerker, and very emotional way) to end the Broken by the Sea trilogy. This book for me really hit home, a friend of mine who is like another sister to me went through something very similar to what Misty does in this book. Ava writes this in such a real way that it makes you let the world suck you in and for just a little bit you become Misty and take on all of her problems and emotions - well really everything she does go through. I honestly had no idea I was crying in parts until my sister asked me if everything was okay, that's how good this book is.
There is a lot of references, for me, that is, to her previous books so before you go and read this one I recommend you going and reading "Forgetting Yesterday" and "Return to Yesterday" which are her first two books! While with a little extra backstory given this book could be a stand-alone, I personally think you as a reader will not get the full effect of the book and what it means and the emotions that Ava, the author, is trying to put off.
The emotional rollercoaster the author puts you through is not one I would trade off for anything else. Ava, I have never read anything you have written until now but you have gained a reader for life and I will be eagerly awaiting your next book!
