I got this book free in exchange for an honest review.
This incredible debut novel captured my attention from the first line 'The scream pierced the silence in the midst of the night.' There are few authors who are able to write a book that hooks you from beginning to end with out loosing you somewhere in the middle at least once but Girton is one those authors who knows exactly what to put, where, and how to create the perfect set of characters to keep the readers interest, Mine included. This one of those novels that really hard for me to stick with my no spoilers review pact, all I have to say is that the is exactly how first books in series should be.
I wasn't sure when I saw the cover how good the book really was, I do that as much as I try not to the cover well it's not the best cover out there but I think everything could be pixely and I would still recommend this novel because this is one of those hidden gems you don't come across that often. H. L. Girton is a new author that you should put on your watchlist for upcoming books.

I got an arc of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review. As per always I am going to try to keep this a spoiler free review... though this will be harder than most books to do so.
Let's start with the most obvious thing that comes to mind, the cover. I have always been told to never judge a book by its cover and for the most part I can honestly say I haven't dont that. But... this isn't one of those times. I judged the book by its incredible cover and this is one of those rare times it actually lived true to it.
This is one of the most beautifully written novels I have read in a long time and to top it all off its a YA Contemporary Romance that has a plot that could have easily gone all YA Science Fiction, but it didn't.
Laura takes your emotions on a journey with her main character, Everly. She makes you go into this world that is quite realistic with themes that could happen and be legit... but she does something a lot of YA writers are unable to do, she makes her character real, with real problems and emotions. Everly is so unique and she stands out so well and is just one of those unique characters that you will remember for months if not years.
I know that Laura is now on my radar and if your looking for an incredible novel that brings you in, than this novel is for you!
This is an emotionally driven story that makes you really feel things you haven't felt in a long time and in a whole new way. Everything from the characters to the plot itself was completely relatable and takes you back to your high school years! I have read Cassandras other novels and while they were good none of them compared to the emotions that this one held. It made me laugh, cry, and scream at the book all at the same time. I love to read and while most of my books are ebooks I have to have a physical copy of this one because I know it's one I want to be able to read over and over again.
More times than not contemporary YA novels really don't give you the realism of teen years and of high school. They give you this fantasy of what you want to see/read. They often lack a sense of honesty, hope, and more importantly it shows how teens feel pain, how they are cruel, how they feel with everything they are or nothing at all.
Overall, I'd say this is a novel that will take you on a rollercoster of emotions and read much quicker than would may think. This is a highly reccomeneded read and I can't wait to see what else Fear has coming out in this series.
